Letters to The Sun: Automated external defibrillators should be in schools and public spaces at a bare minimum
Re: This student watched his friend die: He’s angry Vancouver won’t mandate life-saving medical device in school? Parks Board abolition came out of nowhere Re:?On Vancouver park board future, Mayor Ken Sim says the ball is in David Eby’s court Am I for or against the proposed abolition of the Vancouver Parks Board? I don’t know. How would I know? This significant restructuring of our city government came out of nowhere. In the last election, ABC did not mention this in their platform, and since then there has been no public process at all. Kim Sim/ABC has decided this is best for Vancouver while providing no business case whatsoever, at least not one he has bothered to take to the public, explain and defend. There have been no public meetings, no discussion nor debate at all. It is ham-handed top-down clumsy politics at its worst, and one wonders, why? What’s behind this radical move? And why would you want to burden your tenure with involvement in this mess? Richard Rickard, Vancouver Bridge could solve endless problems with ferries This past summer we vacationed on the east coast, including a trip to PEI via the Confederation Bridge from New Brunswick. At nearly 12.9 kilometres, it is Canada’s longest bridge and replaced the previous ferries. It was completed in 1997 at a cost of $1 billion. Since 2006, a toll is charged only when returning to New Brunswick. We paid $50 for car, driver and passenger.
